Meet You at the Beer Garden, Baby

Meet my buddy Gordon (Gordie for short). We met up at the new Beer Garden in Astoria last Spring. I could have shot this little guy for hours. For one thing, he was not at all afraid of me or my camera (I had the tiny fingerprints on my lens to prove it!). And he was fast. Like the Flash. He left no beer unturned. Which was great for action shots...

See, most kids are excellent at just being themselves. Most don't know yet how to worry about their hair or that one crooked tooth. Just get them in a comfortable environment (right, like a beer garden) and snap away. And pretty soon you'll even have their shy parents posing like Sears models. As you can see from these shots, this little man is Katy and Matthew's pride and joy, and that was all we needed to get some tender family portraits.

Jacqueline Photo Shoot

The idea behind this series of photos is one I often return to - that of juxtaposition. I took my friend Jacqueline, got her all glammed up, and placed her in various abandoned and disheveled environments around Baton Rouge. For this particular shoot the hair, make-up and clothes are all her's, as she's pretty good at styling herself. Don't stress about those details though, we offer styling for those not quite as comfortable with it. To this day this is still my favorite series, as it combines two of my most favorite things - photographing interesting, creative people and exploring mysterious, abandoned locales.
